They say it’s takes at least a year to get fully unpacked when you move. I would agree with that.
This weekend (and several for the past few month’s for that matter) was quite productive. It was nice to get some much needed fine details accomplished.
We finally have a working stove again. In the summer, it’s not too hard to get by with a microwave, and a grill. Especially when the grill is so close to the kitchen. When you unpack, it’s like you kind of go down the middle, and leave the edges for later.
I finally started hanging things up and getting some “flair” on the walls.
My favorite: The Wall of Media.
My ginormous wall of tele, and speakers. It’s nice to have music, and movies again! Ahhh. What a sigh of relief. Of course, it called for some jamming of Megadeth REALLY, REALLY, loud this morning. Just what my ears needed.
I’m not going to point by point go down my laundry list of what I did, the tedium and minutiae would be boring to most.
Being that I have been on a huge green kick for some time now demanded installed two indoor clothes hangers. I hate turning the bloody dryer on. It just seems like such a huge waste of energy. Just like the dishwasher. I never use it. I find it’s best use as a place to keep dishes that don’t see much use. Cup, plate, pot overflow. It keeps my cabinets looking tidy.
We all know that OCD demands tidy cabinets.
Speaking of green….light bulbs.
I had over the past year (or more) I swapped all my old fashioned filament light bulbs out for the newer energy efficient bulbs. A 100 watt bulb, is not about 12 watts. This equates to a great amount of energy savings. Now they have LCD. I can drop the 12 watt, to 2!. The only drawback, it’s almost 9 dollars a bulb. So I have roughly 40 bulbs in my house. Not to mention the garage, and my outdoor floodlights.
So I am looking at at least $360.o0 to upgrade my bulbs again. I need to sit down and calculate the type of actual savings I will see by making the investment.
The other big saving I have been into lately: Hypermiling http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermiling
At my last fillup, I put in 22.1 gallons of gas. I got just over 713 miles out of that tank! This is on a V6 Ford engine. I was totally impressed! I have stretched my tanks out, over double what I was getting. I did not realize there was a movement for this as well. So, I think I will get a hypermiler sticker for the back of my car, that way people will know why I’m not pulling a hole-shot at each light, like I’m running time trials at a drag-strip.
Now, I just need to start adding some solar arrays. Sweet.
