Deus ex Machina: A Digital Bloodletting

Natural

Somethings are a lot easier than they seem.

And, it’s for good reason.

I had to put the theory into practice.

Stretch
Workout
Budo/Meditate
Chevelle
Play

Son of a bitch.

I came up with another epic piece.  Actually about 4.

Shazaam.

Unseen Angel

She was beautiful.
Is beautiful.

In her own ways.

Own wit,
Own charm,
Own grey’s.

Locked in a box,
that no one can see.
Swaddled in sandpaper,
amidst this debris.

Those shades and tones,
Places in between.
Those soft hidden spots,
That meant so much to me.

Misery loves company,
so they say.
She’s in love with heartache,
and her lonely dismays.

The unseen angel
born without wings.
The invisible darling
Longing to be seen.
The comfort of alone
Whispers in the past.
Hush yourself girl
Hush is all, at last.

One became two,
Two became one.
They all whisper in her heart,
and left her with none.

She can lie all day.
Lie right to your face.
Tell you it’s alright,
and she’s happy in her place.

But her eye’s can’t lie.
Can’t push back the pain.
Can’t cover it all up,
Can’t dry all the rain.

It’s no wonder she runs
and tucks herself away.
Hides her face from the son
and weeps it’s ok…

The unseen angel
born without wings.
The invisible darling
Longing to be seen.
The comfort of alone
Whispers in the past.
Hush yourself girl
Hush is all, at last.

Last night, I wrote a really good music piece.  Most songs start out as a bit.  A progression that just seems so right.  It becomes the foundation and you build around it.

I sat on the edge of my bed playing…no…making love to my guitar.  The sound was right.  The mood was right.   All the facets were in place.  A proper birth.

After playing  and feeling quite pleased with what had been done, I realized that my senses were quite sharp.  Beyond just the normal.  Some years ago I discovered that I have perfect pitch.  At the time, I did not even know the terminology, let alone what it meant.  For lack of a better explanation, sounds to me are like colors to other people.  You can “see” the subtle difference between shades.  I hear the subtle differences between notes.  Harmonic minors.  5th’s.  7th’s. Dissonance and consonance.

Dissonance is good.  In the right place, it gives this “tension”.  A feeling that you need to have something resolved.

Anyway, back to perfect pitch.  Usually when I write, I have silence.  Just my guitar and I.  On very rare occasion, piano.  Last night was very different.  I had music playing but very low.  The music I had playing was not even in the genre of what I was writing.  I had just done some serious stretching and had a invigorating workout.  The tele was on as well, but only for light really.  It was barely audible.  In between some notes I heard this chap on the tele speaking.  The show was about America and Freemasons.  The voice I heard I instantly recognized and envisioned the mans face in my heed.  Here is the kicker.  I had one conversation with this man, about a decade ago.  We spoke at length about the Constitution Of the United States.  After all this time, and one conversation I still remembered the timbre of his voice.  When his face came on screen, sure enough, it was him.

At that I grinned widely and thought: no wonder this is all coming so easy tonight.

To top that off, I had an amazing dream about music.

I was in a music store and looking for an Alvarez Yairi Masterworks acoustic.  The shopkeep had none in stock (no surprise they are usually ordered from the luthier).  Some run of the mill Alverez, but no Yairi’s.

He decided to turn me onto this new Ibanez.  I scoffed at him and laughed.  Granted Ibanez makes a fine electric, I was in no mood to listen to his crap about one of their acoustics.  He hands me this guitar that looks more like something out of a comic book. It was a standard shape but had this very modern electronic system in it.  The sound hole was not standard, in fact it was missing.  The last half of the body was an open framework.  The sound however, was unreal.  It was like playing an acoustic through a really good amp and a tube screamer.  I started ripping it up on this thing.  I walked around the music store playing (more showing off really) and just acting really silly.   The price was just under 1150.00 and I thought it was a good buy.  Then the really cool part, I sat down dialed in the acoustic tone and started playing what I wrote last night.  I had added some pieces to it.

That alone told me this new song is going to be something awesome.
