Deus ex Machina: A Digital Bloodletting

The Wonderful World of GameStop!!

The weather is mild.  Ralph Macchio is was just warned : “Points or no points…yer’ dead meat..”  On top of that, multiple video game systems are abuzz.  Speaking of which, it seems that there are a limited number of games from the original Xbox that will play, on the 360.  I imagine there is a mod chip, that will allow all of them to play.  I’m not sure on that one yet.

I do know, however, that the douche-nozzles at Gamestop need some polishing.

So…Mike-Chip-Brian et. al.  Lets loosen up the collars and take a bath first.  OK, now we can start.

  • When a customer asks if these games will play on the new system.  You WORK at a video game store.  It’s your JOB to know.
  • Appearance does count.  Even though it’s a game store, I expect : courtesy, professionalism, positive attitude, appearance, and a favorable knowledge base.  Something all employers would expect.
  • Clean the f’n games.  I may live in one of the crappier parts of town, but my buck…is a buck.  Just because it’s Gamestop policy to rape and pillage; when it comes to the buying and selling of games, DO YOUR JOB.  Clean the games.  If need be, polish the games.  If it has a blatantly cracked case…CHANGE THE CASE!
  • Clean up boys.  If your genetic makeup or age, does not allow for the growing of a proper mustache or beard; then you should at least make it look somewhat presentable.
  • Uniforms.  Surely, Gamestop can provide you with some polo shirts.  I really don’t care to see what version Hulk shirt you own, or a bunch of cheap gangly jewelry.  Expression is good.  Individuality is good.  Respectable business practice is good.           BEER GOOD!!!  FIRE BAD…..
  • Don’t conduct business with the attitude of negativity.  This is what I see when I look through the eyes of a Gamestop employee.   We conduct business with people who mainly are young.  Most of these people are at some point, going to try and screw us over somehow.  Our return policy is very limited(understandably so).  If we let them, some of these folks will rip a game, and bring it back.  We must be vigilant to only serve the purpose of our bottom line, and not the community that supports this business.       Most people, myself included, can pick up on the underlying scepticism in the attitude of the employees.  The second someone asks about the return policy, there is a detectable detest, and change in attitude.

I really don’t expect this to make much of a difference, and that is fine.  This is my part of the digital universe to rant when need be.  Through this blog, I had an epiphany.  My things, I treat with care and respect.  So, in the back of my mind, I expect others to do the same.  So, even when purchasing “used” items, I expect them to have been treated well.  Gamestops business is video games; video games are mostly used by children.  Children do not have to pay for things with money they have worked for.

Gamestop as a business knows this, and should take more time to ensure clean, working, games.

End Trans.

  1. I freaking hate Gamestop. I went there to return a copy of Dead Space I had received for Christmas – I had the receipt. I was returning it because it didn’t work on my PC. Something was wrong with the disc or something, as I had tried it on 3 different PCs here. He said because it was open, they wouldn’t take it back, and would only give me another copy of it. I explained that I already had another copy, as I received two for Christmas. I also asked if I could exchange it for an xbox version, since I was going to buy an xbox that day. He wouldn’t let me do it, so I went and bought my xbox somewhere else, and he’s lost a customer forever.

What kind of jackhole says no to a game exchange and loses a $400 sale?

  2. Had I been in that situation I would have traded you out, when you bought the xbox from my shop. On top of that, I would have given you at least at $10 store credit. In my mind, that would help bring you back to buy more games, and earned a long time customer.

I think that salesman was quite silly, and blew a good sale.
